In the first post for Bealtainn we delved into the story of the Shrine of the Cailleach, and to think that tomorrow (Thursday the 1st May), someone (who most likely works for the Glen Lyon Estate) will head up to Glen Cailleach and perform the ancient ritual of unpacking the stones. They will take them out of their little shieling and place them out in the Glen for the summer months and the time of the big sun. This ritual brings the end of winter and the beginning of summer.
Yet behind this story I found my own story of Bealltainn, which is the story of Cee-al, a woman whose life was woven with the tides. I’ll share this story below, part of the Ancestral Mothers of Scotland series and an offering to paid subscribers.
The next Reclaiming Keening episode will be a few days late, in order for me to cover the Bealltainn stories. The next Reclaiming Keening is called Portents of Death, exploring figures such as the banshee and the caoineag.
Check out this podcast where I joined Hilary Campbell of the Antlered Path who shares musings from the sea, who invited me for a chat on selkies.
