The keening woman is present in grief. She wails with the women, holding dead children in their arms, their grief as cataclysmic and disorientating, as the bombs which rain down around them.
She is there in black mourning among the crows, as they say their goodbyes to a feathered beloved, ebony feathers mirroring the cosmic void.
She is there with us on days when we return to memories of loved ones gone, as we take strength in feeling them close and the lifetimes spent by their side.
Midwifing the Soul
Come join me in the liminal, in the thresholds of what has been and what is to come. It is this fertile in-between place that offers rebirth, guided by the ancient figure of the Bean Chaointe, the Keening Woman.
We will gather on the Island of the Big Women, set among the Hebrides, the Isles of Brighid, a threshold Goddess who brought keening to the world.
We do this work in partnership with the land, exploring our relationship to the living landscape through story, art, and ritual.
Through the Eye of the Cailleach
Answering the Call
Perhaps this ancient female figure calls you - inviting you to rituals of birth and death and thresholds of rebirth:
…Stepping into the loch waters
…Dancing with the Ancestors between the worlds
…Climbing through the Eye of the Cailleach
