Summer and Winter Solstice along the River Leven. Water flows from Loch Lomond, down via the Leven and into the River Clyde.
A few times a week, I’ll walk down the riverbank with the dogs. I always like to see what plants are in bloom, depending on the time of year I like to look for the first signs of autumn or spring.
The land is always speaking. It was the land down by the River Clyde that encouraged me to start weaving, to bring together the colours of the land, adding stones and heather, seaweed and hagstones.
The plants on the Leven’s bank have suggested that I make prints of them, recording their shape in simple monoprints.
Now that I look at these I’m wondering if these are Toxic Hemlock, rather than Queen Anne’s Lace. I forgot to check the stalks!
A great reminder (and a good note to myself). Click on image for source
Ferns make the most dramatic prints
A little mugwort print
This is a gelli print with a coloured background, print of grasses and sewn on shell.
While I really enjoy gelli printing, i almost prefer the simplicity of mono printing.

Looks like poison hemlock to me! The flowers between Queen Anne’s Lace, Poison Hemlock, and Water Hemlock are different too. I love that a poisonous plant is getting your attention. Be careful handling them!
